Accessibility Statement — Same Street
Last updated: 17 August, 2026
Our Commitment
Same Street is committed to making our website accessible to everyone, including people with disabilities, older people, and those who are less confident with technology.
We want every care home resident in the UK to be able to use Same Street, regardless of their physical or cognitive abilities.
Why Accessibility Matters to Us
Most of our users are elderly people living in UK care homes. Many are using the internet for the first time, or returning to it after years away. Some live with visual impairments, hearing loss, reduced motor control, or early cognitive change. For these users, a website that is hard to read, hard to navigate, or confusing to use is not just an inconvenience — it is a barrier to connection and companionship.
That is why accessibility is built into Same Street from the start — large text, high contrast, simple layouts, keyboard navigation, and screen reader compatibility. We do not treat accessibility as a compliance checkbox. We treat it as a core part of making Same Street work for the people who need it most.
What This Statement Covers
This accessibility statement applies to samestreet.co.uk and all pages within it.
How Accessible Same Street Is
We have designed Same Street with accessibility in mind. We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 Level AA standard.
What works well
- Clear, large readable text throughout the site
- High contrast between text and background colours
- Simple, uncluttered page layouts
- Descriptive link text (no "click here" links)
- The site can be navigated using a keyboard
- Pages work on mobile phones and tablets as well as desktop computers
- We do not use flashing or rapidly changing content
- Emergency support (Samaritans 116 123) is prominently displayed on every page
Known limitations
We are aware of the following limitations and are working to address them:
- Some images may not have full alternative text descriptions yet
- Some older PDF documents may not be fully accessible
- Video content, where used, may not yet have full captions or transcripts
We are actively working to address these issues as we develop the platform.
What We Are Doing
We are committed to continuous improvement of our accessibility. This includes:
- Regularly reviewing our site against WCAG 2.2 AA guidelines
- Testing our platform with users who have a range of needs
- Acting on feedback from users who experience difficulties
If you cannot use this website
Some people cannot use a phone, tablet or computer on their own — and that should never mean missing out. Care home staff can help residents use all of the main parts of Same Street on their behalf.
With a resident's agreement, a member of staff can:
- Record how the resident is feeling (a mood check-in)
- Record a decision the resident has given verbally or on paper (consent)
- Send a Wisdom Bridge connection request so the resident can be matched with someone to talk to
Your first point of call is your care home. Please ask a member of staff, your activities coordinator, or the home manager — they can sit with you and do this together. Every entry made this way is recorded and shows the name of the staff member who helped, so there is always a clear record.
If your care home cannot help, or you are not living in a care home, email us at hello@samestreet.co.uk and we will find another way to support you.

Technical Information
Same Street is committed to making its website accessible in accordance with the Public Sector Bodies (Websites and Mobile Applications) (No. 2) Accessibility Regulations 2018.
Same Street is partially compliant with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines version 2.2 AA standard. Our primary colour combination (white text on dark green background) achieves a contrast ratio of 13.45:1, exceeding the WCAG 2.2 AAA requirement of 7:1.
Known areas of non-compliance we are actively working to address: some interactive elements do not yet meet the 44px minimum touch target size; focus indicators are not fully visible in all contexts; some form inputs on staff and admin surfaces lack programmatic labels; colour is used as the only means of conveying mood and severity information in some dashboard views; session timeouts do not yet offer an extension option. We aim to address these in the next development cycle.
How We Tested This Website
This statement was prepared on May 20, 2026. Last reviewed August 2026. Testing to date has used the WebAIM WAVE automated audit tool on the homepage. Automated tools detect a subset of accessibility issues only — manual testing and assistive technology testing (screen reader, keyboard-only navigation) across all authenticated surfaces has not yet been completed. We intend to complete full manual and assistive technology testing before commercial rollout and will update this statement with the results.
We will review and update this statement annually or whenever significant changes are made to the website.
