You are not alone.
Same Street was founded by Afaq Zia, a recent MSc graduate from Salford University in Business Analytics & Operations Management. The idea came from observing how difficult it is for young people to socialise today — social anxiety, fear of rejection, and the pressures of modern life make it genuinely hard to form new connections, even when surrounded by people. If that is the reality for young people with every advantage on their side, the thought of what elderly care home residents must experience felt impossible to ignore. No bars, no dating apps, no casual ways in. Just quiet afternoons, a significant life transition, and often nobody who truly understands what they are going through. Moving into a care home means not just a change of address but a quiet loss — of routine, of neighbours, of the people you once saw every day. When it's you on the receiving end, you understand. Same Street was built with that purpose, to help them form new connections with people who do, and feel like home again.
Same Street connects care home residents across the UK with others who have walked a similar path — through loss, major life changes, or moving into care, or simply the weight of a quiet afternoon. It is built on shared experience, not algorithms.
Same Street is for anyone living in a UK care home, as well as their family members, carers, and friends. It is also open to community members who want to offer companionship, and younger people seeking life guidance through Wisdom Bridge. You do not need to be tech-savvy — if you can send a text message, you can use Same Street.
We work alongside care homes, not around them. If you are a manager, carer, or family member and would like to recommend Same Street to residents, or have questions about how it works, we would love to hear from you. Get in touch: hello@samestreet.co.uk
